Mylon
Filkins, DVM
Dr. Filkins graduated from Iowa State University with a DVM and
an MS in Veterinary Physiology. He has been with Bakersfield Veterinary
Hospital since 1965, and is a Director and Partner. He has been a part
of many professional organizations, including the Kern County Medical
Association (Past President), CVMA, AVMA, the American Association of
Equine Practitioners Public Policy Committee and the American Horse
Council (Chairman). He is heavily involved in the community, as he is a
member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, has taught classes at
Bakersfield College (Equine nutrition, health and physiology), and has
been the President for the Back Country Horsemen of California. Dr.
Filkins and his wife Patricia have four children (Michelle, Susanne,
Darren and David) and they have a large group of grandchildren that keep
them busy! Dr. Filkins breeds, raises and shows cutting and reining
horses, backcountry mules and pack stock. He enjoys back country pack
trips, big game hunting, and is a native plant and cactus collector.
John Tolley, DVM
Dr. John Tolley came to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital in July
of 1983 as a graduate of University of California Davis, School of
Veterinary Medicine and became co-owner in 1988. He has his Bachelors
of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arizona. His
professional affiliations are as follows: member of the American
Association of Equine Practitioners, California Veterinary Medical
Association, Kern County Veterinary Medical Association, and Back
Country Horsemen of California. He currently serves as a Legislative
Delegate to the California Veterinary Medical Association. He has been
married to Michelle, a retired teacher, since 1996 and has a beautiful
daughter Chrissy, a bright and active college student. His professional
interests are in Equine dentistry and lameness. Personal interests
include travel, cooking, reading, hunting, guns, pleasure riding,
working with his hands building and working on his 70 acre Glennville
Ranch.
Christian
Comeau, DVM
Dr. Christian Comeau (pronounced Komo) is a 1998 University of
California Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine graduate. His
veterinary interests include equine medicine, surgery, reproduction and
dentistry. He enjoys ambulatory practice serving as a "country vet" for
the Twin Oaks, Walker Basin, Havilah, and Lake Isabella areas. He
provides yearly clinics in Twin Oaks and Kernville. His free time is
spent working on his Twin Oaks ranch and tending to a menagerie of
animals including chickens, goats, rabbits and horses. He is originally
from Quebec, Canada and his recreational interests include shooting
sports and firearms, riding motorcycles, and fabrications with metal and
wood. He is a member of the American Association of Equine
Practitioners, California Veterinary Medical Association, and the Kern
County Veterinary Medical Association.
Laura Blanton, DVM
Dr. Blanton was born and
raised in Northern California. She graduated from Colorado State
University in 1998, with an Animal Science degree, then spent the next
two years traveling around the country gaining experience working with
livestock. She joined the BVH team immediately after graduating
Veterinary School at UC Davis in 2004, and she enjoys general large
animal practice. Dr. Blanton and her husband Chad have several 4-legged
children including Pete the lab, Critter the cat and two horses. In
her (very limited!) spare time she enjoys hiking with her dog, back
country horseback riding, baking and knitting.
